Statistics New Zealand said grocery, liquor, and tobacco products wholesaling rose, offset by declines in basic material, machinery and equipment wholesaling.

On an annual basis, the value of wholesale trade sales rose 3.7 percent.

The department said the trend for total sales had generally been rising since the September 2009 quarter, but it had fallen recently.
