Auckland International Airport Ltd has shelved plans to move to a single duty free retailer, following an investigation by the Commerce Commission.
The Commission was concerned the move to reduce the number of retailers from two to one would reduce competition and choice for consumers. It had already blocked DFS Galleria from buying its rival Nuance.
The airport company was warned it risked breaching the Commerce Act if it went ahead.
Now the company has given an undertaking that it will stick with two retailers, DFS Galleria and Regency Duty Free.
Chief executive Don Huse says it was a pragmatic and logical decision.
