Fast food chain BurgerFuel Worldwide has big plans to grow its business in Australia and the United States over the next 12-to-18 months.
Chief executive Josef Roberts told the annual shareholders meeting yesterday the company was working with US-based Subway restaurants on its expansion plans, although the details are a secret for now.
In a deal finalised early this year Subway founders, Fred DeLuca and Peter Buck, took a 10 percent stake in BurgerFuel, with an option to take up to 50 percent within the next eight years.
Mr Roberts said the burger company had only one restaurant in Australia and none in the United States, but that was soon to change.
"That is going to be our focus in the next 12 months, is to do it the BurgerFuel way. I begin with a simple premise - if you can build a culture you can build a brand," he said.
"It's about making sure that in the end there's a movement going on, there's something bigger than just the actual burger or product."
He said a second store will be opening shortly.
"I think that the market can expect progressive development in that country."
