Jobs market to stay strong

A survey of employers has found the New Zealand jobs market will stay strong in the three months ending September, thanks to investment in Auckland and Christchurch.

Of the more than 600 employers questioned, a third said they're planning to increase their hiring rate, and almost 60 percent said their hiring levels wouldn't change - 7% said they plan to decrease hiring.

The latest Manpower employment outlook survey says although the residential rebuild in Christchurch is well underway, commercial construction is still in its infancy and is expected to pick up towards the end of the year.

General manager of Manpower's Experis group Neil Munro, said some employment sectors are forecast to be particularly strong including construction, finance, insurance real estate, transport and utilities.

Mr Munro said he expects the outlook for the following quarter will be interesting, bearing in mind the planned general election, but he doesn't expect the job market to change significantly.
