Alibaba Group says there is a golden opportunity for New Zealand businesses to access 100 million Chinese shoppers on a daily basis through its subsidiary, Tmall.
Tmall is a business to consumer platform targeted at mainland Chinese shoppers, and a business and development team from Alibaba is in the country talking to businesses about getting their products on the website.
Fonterra and Comvita already trade through the platform, and the likes of Weta Workshop and Pumpkin Patch are looking to do so.
Alibaba accounted for 80 percent of all of China's online shopping last year, clocking up more transactions then Amazon and eBay combined, and yesterday it filed to list on the New York stock exchange, in what could be the biggest floats in history.
