Manufacturing sales rose in the September quarter with signs the Canterbury rebuild is filtering through to the sector.
Official figures show the volume of manufacturing sales rose 0.5% in the three months to the end of September compared with the previous quarter, despite a 2.7% fall in meat and dairy product manufacturing.
ANZ senior economist Mark Smith says there are signs the $40 billion Canterbury rebuild is boosting manufacturing.
Mr Smith says the manufacturing sector is likely to make a strong positive contribution to third quarter GDP.
Meanwhile, the value of manufacturing sales rose 4.7% in the September quarter, boosted by high dairy prices.
