Methven beefs up marketing spend

7:36 am on 2 December 2013

Methven is creating an entirely new marketing team as the tap and showerware maker launches a global campaign to increase sales.

Chief executive Rick Fala steps down at Christmas after 16 years in the role, though he will remain a director on the board. Incoming chief executive David Banfield will start in January.

Mr Fala says a beefed up marketing team will also start in the new year, with the aim of driving sales and brand recognition, particularly online.

"For some time now we haven't really had a group marketing team in place for our business ... we've decided to coordinate and centralise these locally."

He says the company will focus on the internet as that is where most customers go for information.

Mr Fala says Methven will spend around 20% more on marketing this year, compared to last year.

The company reported a 21% rise in half year after tax profit of $2.8 million on Friday.
