Abano Healthcare says the recent purchase of a rival chain of dental clinics helps put a value on its group of clinics.

British-based Bupa has bought Dental Corporation, a purchase approved by the Supreme Court of Victoria last month.

Dental Corporation owns 190 dental clinics in Australia and New Zealand as well as almost 35% of Dental Corporation of Canada Holdings which operates 25 clinics.

Bupa is paying about $A374 million for Dental Corporation which had revenues in the 12 months to March of $A335 million.

Abano owns 150 dental clinics, 73 in Australia and the other 77 in New Zealand.

Abano managing director Alan Clarke said his company's dental business is very similar to that of Dental Corporation.

He said Abano's annualised revenues in the dental area are about $220 million.

Mr Clarke said Abano is growing at one practice every two and a bit weeks, most are in the Australian market, although the New Zealand acquisition rate increased last year.

He said that rate allows the dentists to be assimilated into the group to ensure the values and culture are aligned.
