A $A4.2 billion coal mine project has been approved for the Galilee Basin in western Queensland.
The Hancock Galilee company is proposing two open-cut and three underground mines north-west of Alpha, as well as accommodation for 2000 workers and an airport.
The ABC reports the project will be known as Kevin's Corner. It still requires federal government approval.
Barcaldine mayor Rob Chandler said it will provide jobs for the wider region.
