Briscoes Group is cautiously optimistic about the year ahead and is confident the retailer can continue delivering record profits.
Briscoes, which also owns Living & Giving and Rebel Sports, says total sales in the three months to 28 April increased to $108.6 million, up 6% on the same quarter last year.
But managing director Rod Duke says the unseasonal warm weather, means they are having to heavily discount products like heaters and warm clothing, which is eating into margins.
Meanwhile, shareholders at the company's annual meeting on Thursday voted in favour of increasing the non-executive directors' fees pool by $95,000.
Mr Duke said that money will be used to recruit a new non-executive director in the next few weeks.
Briscoes shares gained 5 cents to $2.60 on Thursday.
