AMP interested in SOE stake

Investment fund manager AMP Capital says it's very interested in buying stakes in state-owned enterprises when they eventually list.

The Government plans to sell up to 49% of state-owned energy companies Genesis Energy, Meridian Energy, Mighty River Power and Solid Energy and reduce the Crown's shareholding in Air New Zealand.

Prime Minister John Key says Mighty River Power's partial float will happen by June next year despite the threat of legal action by the Maori Council, and another - either Genesis Energy or Meridian Energy - by the end of next year.

AMP Capital equity portfolio manager and analyst Douglas Lau says the price of the shares will be critical in its decision on whether to invest.
