BHP Billiton has recorded record annual iron ore production for the 12th consecutive year.
The company has posted a jump of 15% in its fourth quarter iron ore output as it expands its operations in the West Australian Pilbara region.
BHP produced 40.9 million metric tonnes in the three months to the end of June compared with 35.5 million tonnes a year earlier.
The ABC reports coal volumes for steelmakers grew modestly in the quarter, with Queensland coal output constrained by heavy rainfall and industrial action.
Coal output for power stations also grew slightly to 18.5 million tonnes.
BHP's copper, lead, silver, nickel and uranium production also rose, but zinc and aluminium production fell.
Crude oil and liquids production eased slightly, but natural gas production surged 68% compared with the June quarter last year.
