United Future says Budget prudent

10:11 pm on 19 May 2011

United Future leader and Revenue Minister Peter Dunne says the budget is a prudent step in managing the country's finances in a very difficult and stressful time.

The Budget delivered on Thursday makes cuts to Kiwisaver, Working for Families and interest-free student loans.

It's intended that it will return the country to surplus a year earlier than forecast in last year's budget.

Mr Dunne says the budget sets a course for the future, giving heart and confidence to Canterbury in their hour of need.

He told Parliament it also gives assurances to New Zealanders of every generation that their circumstances have been protected.

The Budget sets aside $5.5 billion for rebuilding after the Canterbury earthquakes.
