The police in Hamilton have conducted a preliminary interview with a woman attacked with a metal bar in her home on Sunday night but details are still sketchy.
They say the 23-year-old disturbed a man after hearing a noise upstairs and was attacked.
When she ran out of the house, the man chased her and hit her again about the head.
Her screams alerted a neighbour and the assailant ran off.
The police say they still only have a limited description of the man.
He was wearing a black balaclava and black hooded sweatshirt with a white skull-head pattern on the back of it.
