Investigations will resume this morning at the scene of a fatal caravan fire in Nelson.
Emergency services were called to the fire at the Waimea Town and Country Club in Richmond about 8pm on Saturday. They found a man had died in the blaze.
Richmond fire chief Ralph Lonsdale said he and other local firefighters were attending an honours night at a nearby hall when they saw smoke billowing into the sky.
He said a neighbouring fire crew that was standing in for the Richmond crew was on the scene very quickly and discovered the man's body in the wreckage after putting the fire out.
Mr Lonsdale said no one else was injured.
Eyewitnesses said the person who died was a man in his mid-sixties.
