Emergency services rush to serious crash on SH1 near Topuni

Emergency services have been called to a crash involving a truck on State Highway 1, north of Auckland.

Police said they were called to the scene at Topuni, Kaipara District, between Mill and Otioro at 7.35pm Monday.

"Initial reports suggest serious injuries," a police spokesperson said.

St John said two patients were treated, one in a serious condition and the other in a moderate condition.

St John said it initially sent eight vehicles, however, two were stood down. One operations manager, two rapid response vehicles, two ambulances and a helicopter went to the crash.

Flight tracker shows rescue helicopters were sent to the crash.

A Fire and Emergency (FENZ) spokesperson confirmed it was a multiple-vehicle crash involving a truck.

FENZ sent three crews from Kaiwaka, Maungaturoto and Wellsford to the scene, as well as support crews from Whangārei to help with traffic management.

The road is closed and diversions are in place. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
