One person has died after a crash between a car and truck on State Highway 2, south of Auckland.
The road, near Mangatāwhiri, remains closed in both directions between Rawiri Road and Kopuku Road.
St John said it sent two ambulances, a helicopter and a rapid response vehicle.
The driver of the car died at the scene.
The truck driver has moderate injuries and was transported to hospital.
Four fire stations - Maramarua, Mangatangi, Pokeno, and Papakura - also attended.
The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene.
