State Highway Two in Bay of Plenty is blocked after a serious crash.
Police said the crash involved a truck and a van near Tanners Point just before 9am on Wednesday.
Initial indications suggest there are serious injuries.
The road is closed between between Katikati and Waihi Beach. It is expected to be blocked for some time while emergency workers are at the scene.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and expect delays.
NZ Transport Agency said a detour for motorists travelling northbound is to travel southbound on SH2, then turn right on to Moffat Rd, then continue straight on to Cambridge Rd, then turn right on to SH29, then continue straight on to SH24, then turn right on to SH27, then turn right on to SH26, then turn right to continue on SH26, then turn right onto SH2. Southbound motorists are advised to follow this in reverse. This detour is not suitable for heavy trucks.
