An Auckland funeral home is putting out a final call for loved ones to collect any unclaimed ashes before a mass interment of over 700 ashes.
Morrisons Funerals said it had a secured room full of over 700 unclaimed ashes urns and in the coming months it was planning a mass interment to lay the ashes to rest.
It said families had until the end of November to come forward and claim any ashes.
The amount of unclaimed ashes the funeral home had highlighted the emotional weight of post-death decisions, Morrisons Funerals location manager Natasha Plunkett said.
"Even the simplest task like picking up ashes can be overwhelmed by grief, conflict or not knowing what to do with them."
Anyone who thought they might have a loved one whose ashes were never collected from Morrisons Funerals could reach out to the funeral home by emailing tributes@morrisons.co.nz or calling 09 836 0029.
