Police are investigating the fifth shooting in Levin in a week.
Acting Manawatū Area Commander Inspector Ash Gurney said shots were reportedly fired at a house on Vincent Drive in the early hours of Saturday morning.
It comes after police put a Gang Conflict Warrant in place in the region last week following a series of shootings.
The warrant is in place for Ōtaki, Shannon, Foxton and Levin.
Four guns and a knife have been seized.
Gurney said overnight, police impounded a vehicle which allegedly drove towards a police car carrying out patrols, then failed to stop on request in Levin.
He said police are investigating who the driver was.
"The vehicle was later stopped and impounded at Levin with enquiries continuing to identify the driver at the time the vehicle was driven towards the police vehicle," Gurney said.
Extra officers have been brought from around the central district - including Taranaki, Whanganui, Ruapehu and Palmerston North.
Gurney said the higher police presence will remain in Levin while they continue to investigate.
He urged anyone with information to contact police.
Earlier, Horowhenua Mayor Bernie Wanden said residents were anxious and on edge due to the spike in shootings.
