Man accused of fatal shooting in Hamilton overnight appeared in court

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after the discovery of a body in Hamilton on Wednesday night.

The 20-year-old, who was granted name suppression, entered the district court room in a a blue prison suit with an obvious limp on Thursday afternoon.

After the body was discovered a police chase involving the Eagle helicopter and the police dog unit ensued, during which a car was stolen from a motorist at gunpoint.

The man was spotted by the dog unit just after midnight and taken into custody.

The man also faced charges of aggravated robbery and failing to stop.

He was remanded in custody to appear again next month.
