Swearing in and bowing out

This week Paulo Garcia was sworn in as the newest MP for the National Party.

By law no member is allowed to sit or vote in the House until they’ve taken the Oath of Allegiance or an affirmation which is the non-religious version.

The affirmation is in these terms:

I, …, solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare and affirm that I will be
faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth
the Second, Her heirs and successors, according to law

Mr Garcia replaces former National MP Nuk Korako who spoke to Phil Smith about his five years at Parliament. Parts of that interview are included in the audio below and the full interview can be found here.
