How many kids remember something when they were five years old and can then recall it in detail 80 or so years later? Well, in 1961 JS Thompson did, but then it was in the process of recalling something pretty significant - the 1886 eruption of Mt Tarawera which destroyed what was considered to be the eighth wonder of the world, the Pink and White Terraces. Other archival recordings also commemorate the 125th anniversary of the event, telling how the night displaced the Tuhourangi iwi from their ancestral territory.
