The concept of international aid is one of the great symbols of humanitarianism, but it has always been controversial. Stuart Carr, professor of psychology at Massey University, is the co-author of a new book about the dilemmas thrown up by international aid programmes. He's also conducted research on the disparities between expat aid workers and their local counterparts.
