Bob Norling has been involved in the railways for his entire adult life. He's a founder and chair of the Main Trunk Rail Organisation since 2001, an organisation established with the aim of preserving railway history. He also led the effort to erect a memorial site for the victims of the 1953 Tangiwai Disaster and has helped to restore the Ohakune Coach Road as a popular walking and cycling trail.
Bob has been awarded the Queen's Service Medal for services to railway heritage and the community.
