New Year Honours: Sergeant Lehi Hohaia

Sergeant Lehi Hohaia has worked for the New Zealand Police for 40 years, providing an important link between the Police and the Māori community in Rotorua.  

Among his achievements, Sergeant Hohaia helped to develop and run a alcohol education programme, which has been been attended by more than 500 recidivist drink drivers, and has resulted in a 96 percent success rate of non-reoffending.

Sergeant Hohaia has been recognised for his work with the Queen's Service Medal for service to Maori and the police.
