The Maldives Exodus Caravan Show

The Maldives Exodus Caravan Show has rolled into Auckland from the Venice Biennale. With works from over 30 international artists squeezed inside a small 70's caravan, this exhibition, which has just opened at Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts in Pakuranga, hopes to promote awareness about climate change and the political situation inside the Maldives.
Due to climate change, rising sea levels are threatening to flood the Maldives, which politically have spent many years under a dictatorship. After the coup in 2012 which deposed the democratically elected government, official curator Søren Dahlgaard broke away from the Maldives National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale to set up The Maldives Exodus Caravan Show. The caravan will be touring around the Auckland region for the next few months. Why a caravan, asks Standing Room Only reporter Justin Gregory, what does that mean to a person from the Maldives?
