"On the morning of 26 September we were detailed to accompany the guerrilla platoon to an area that held up to 40 Japanese. One morning we saw a large barge going into a bay on our left. One platoon went to investigate, and they were able to board the barge which had been left unattended. When the three Japanese tried to return on board they were fired on by the New Zealanders on the barge. Later the Japanese left on the shore were captured. It was a very happy band that sailed the enemy barge back that afternoon." 25 Oct 1943
