A state of Emergency has been declared for the Ōtorohanga District, having experienced widespread flooding and heavy rain, with reports of flooding, slips and inundation.
An Emergency Operations Centre has been set up at Council Chambers and people are being urged that to stay safe, they should not venture out into floodwater.
Some people have left their homes to seek shelter at Te Kotahitanga Marae in Ōtorohanga.
