David Heymann: Preventing pandemics

David Heymann was recently in New Zealand giving public talks on emerging infectious diseases and how global inequality affects their spread and treatment.

David Heymann is Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; Head of the Centre on Global Health Security at Chatham House, London and Chairman of the Board, Public Health England, UK. Previously he was the World Health Organization's Assistant Director-General for Health Security and Environment, and Representative of the Director-General for polio eradication. Known internationally as editor of the ID handbook Control of Communicable Diseases Manual, Professor Heymann was recently in New Zealand as a guest of the University of Otago in Wellington, holding public talks in which he discussed emerging infectious diseases, and how global inequality affects their spread and treatment.
