Tarryn Atwell used to have two words ‘no’ and ‘mum’. Then she was taught how to sign. Now the 12-year-old has the tools to speak about any subject she chooses. And, with the help of sign language, Tarryn’s spoken language has developed. Tarryn’s mum Alison Atwell believes signing is the key to communicating for many people in the hearing community.  She has set up an organisation, Voice Thru Your Hands, which aims  to provide support to every person to find their own voice through sign language and/or visual communication.
