Diane Ackerman is an American author, poet, and naturalist. Some of her writing combines poetry, colloquial history, and popular science. She has also written about caring for her novelist husband, Paul West after he had a stroke, which took his speech. Her award winning novel, The Zookeeper's Wife, is about one of the most successful hideouts of World War II. It's a true story about a Polish zoo-keeping couple who saved the lives of 300 Jews.
