Ingrid Betancourt was campaigning as a presidential candidate for a left-leaning green party in Colombia when she was taken hostage by the guerilla movement FARC - Colombia's revolutionary Armed Forces, in 2002. For six and a half years she was held with other hostages in the jungle, until she was rescued by the Colombian Army in 2008. In her new book Even Silence Has an End Ingrid Betancourt recounts the drama of her capture and eventual rescue and describes her fight to survive, mentally and physically.
