Professor Donald Evans, director of Otago University's Bioethics Centre, says allowing social grounds for the sex selection of embryos during fertility treatment would be "winding the social clock back in New Zealand by at least a generation and a half".

9:20 Anti-tagging bill passes with overwhelming majority

Darren Hughes, Labour MP, and Hone Harawira, MP Te Tai Tokerau. The writing's on the wall for tagging, with the successful passage of a bill designed to stamp out what's being described as an 'urban scourge'.

Darren Hughes presented the bill on behalf of Justice Minister Annette King and he describes tagging as "an invasion of personal space". Hone Harawira was one of only 10 MPs to vote against the bill and says although he is not a fan of tagging, this move will do nothing to stop it.

Roscoe Tait was recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list earlier this month, for his 40 years of service to Search and Rescue... unpaid, but never it seems unrewarded.
