There has been a lot of debate around how much teachers are paid.
Public Service Minister Judith Collins had to backtrack claims a high school teacher with a decade of experience was paid nearly $150,000 a year, when allowances and extra responsibilities are factored in.
The union says the average salary of a senior teacher is around $100,000 a year, and only a small number of deputy principals made what the minister was claiming.
So is it a fair wage, or should the best teachers be earning more?
