The Supreme Court has paved the way for a possible change to the voting age.
After failing in the High Court and the Court of Appeal, lobby group Make it 16 took their case to the supreme court earlier this year. The court this morning declared the minimum voting age of 18-years-old is inconsistent with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act.
But the ruling doesn't automatically guarantee the voting age will be lowered - that can be done only by parliament.
