The Auckland Council recently voted to transfer the Titirangi house once belonging to the novelist Maurice Shadbolt to the Going West Trust. Shadbolt was a trailblazer for professional writing in Aotearoa, and made a successful living from his novels and various non-fictional works.
Naomi McCleary from the trust says the goal now is raising enough money to rehabilitate the Shadbolt house with a view to establishing a writers' residency.
