After 5 years in L.A collaborating with the likes of Grammy Award-winning producer Om’Mas Keith (Frank Ocean, Erykah Badu) and Jim Fairchild (Grandaddy, Modest Mouse), Lontalius is back in Wellington. RNZ Music is stoked to present his new single and video ‘Faint’.
At just 23 years old, Eddie Johnson, aka Lontalius, has attracted massive acclaim for his music. The songwriter and producer has already released three EPs and two albums, plus several more EPs and many remixes as his electronic producer alter-ego Race Banyon.
He was signed to Brooklyn-based indie label Partisan Records for his first album I’ll Forget 17, then spent five years in Los Angeles, collaborating with the likes of Grammy Award-winning producer Om’Mas Keith (Frank Ocean, Erykah Badu) and Jim Fairchild (Grandaddy, Modest Mouse) on his sophomore album All I Have, which he released in late 2019.
Eddie’s new single ‘Faint’ sees him return to his roots, writing music on an acoustic guitar in his bedroom in Wellington, his hometown. “I hadn’t touched an acoustic guitar in a long time until I came home to NZ and it was all I had to write with. Back to basics,” Eddie says.
‘Faint’ is the second release from his upcoming album Someone Will Be There For You.
The accompanying video by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou matches the simple, stripped-back vibe of the song perfectly. Showing Eddie slowly making pottery. Think 1990s hit film Ghost, but without Patrick Swayze, or any ghosts..
