VIDEO PREMIERE: Love Square ft. Milly Tabak ‘Where Does It Go’

From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 8 August 2019

Nick Atkinson of Supergroove and Hopetoun Brown fame has a new musical project called Love Square. RNZ Music is stoked to be the first to share his new track ‘Where Does It Go’ featuring vocals from Milly Tabak of The Miltones.

Love Square is Nick Atkinson’s new songwriting and production project. He’s writing and recording songs for a wide range of vocalists and players, with the help of his talented friend, Songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and engineer Jol Mulholland.

This first track, ‘Where Does It Go’, features Milly Tabak of The Miltones on vocals, and no less than three drummers.

Milly and Nick met through Kingsland Folk Club sessions at Auckland’s Portland Public House, when Hopetoun Brown first started performing. The Miltones and Hopetoun Brown have moved in the same circles ever since.

Both nick and Milly have recorded in Lyttelton with Ben Edwards, and they both played WOMAD last year. Nick adores Milly's onstage mastery, but he wanted to catch another texture of her voice on this track, which features Milly singing softly over umpteen layers of earthy percussion.

That earthy percussion is provided by Oliver Harmer, best known for his engineering prowess at Auckland’s The Lab Studios, who Nick roped in to play drums, as well as Alistair Deverick (Lawrence Arabia, Boycrush). Oliver and Alistair lay down the rhythm, so conga maestro Isaac Chadderton can do his thing. Isaac is best known for his floor-filling work with Weird Together and Lord Echo.

‘Were Does It Go’ is the first song in a three-part story of an unfolding love triangle with each successive tune revealing the experience of another character.
