VIDEO PREMIERE: Sorrento ‘Parallel Love’ ft. Noah Slee

From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 1 March 2019

RNZ Music is stoked to be the first to share the surprise single from bass-player turned solo musician Sorrento, aka Marika Hodgson. Her new video ‘Parallel Love’ features Berlin-based Kiwi neo-soul singer Noah Slee.

The woman behind Sorrento is of one of New Zealand’s most well-known musicians, Marika Hodgson. She’s been part of NZ’s music scene for a number of years, playing bass with some of the country’s most-loved and well-respected artists, including Hollie Smith, Teeks, Troy Kingi, Nathan Haines, Moana & The Tribe and Estere.

Sorrento is a collaborative project, in which Marika works with an all-star line-up of feature artists, including Troy Kingi, who featured on her last single ‘Look Up’, Myele Manzanza, and Noah Slee.

As well as featuring in ‘Parallel Love’, Noah is set to appear on Sorrento’s next soon-to-be-revealed single.

Noah has been making a name for himself abroad, with albums such as 2017’s Otherland, which combines traditional soul influences, future beats, pro R’n’B and indie electronica.

‘Parallel Love’ follows Sorrento’s debut single ‘Look Up’, featuring Troy Kingi, and is the first of a number of exciting releases in the year ahead.

It’s an uplifting track, which Marika says celebrates the beauty in loss. It features gorgeous vocals from Noah and a wicked bass solo from Marika - the bass-player extraordinaire behind the Sorrento moniker.

“‘Parallel Love’ is about loving someone but you can’t be in their world, almost like travelling alongside them in a parallel universe,” explains Marika, who self-produced and co-wrote the track with Noah.

The video for ‘Parallel Love’ features Auckland dancer Phoenix and shot by Auckland photographer Oliver Crawford. The footage was then brought to life by London-based digital illustrator Vince Fraser, who’s renowned for his stunning black and white imagery.

Fraser was invited to include one piece of his work in an upcoming exhibition at South Place Hotel in London and he chose ‘Parallel Love’.
