VIDEO PREMIERE: Thomas Oliver ‘Learn That Lesson Again’

From RNZ Music, 7:55 am on 29 November 2018

RNZ  Music is proud to present the brand new track from 2016 Silver Scroll winner Thomas Oliver, ‘Learn That Lesson Again’.

‘Learn That Lesson Again’ is a co-written and co-produced track by Thomas Oliver and Nashville producer Tony Esterly who’s worked with the likes of SIA, Kimbra, Aloe Blacc.

The pair hadn’t met before they got together to create the track, but quickly bonded over a shared love of neo-soul music.

‘Learn That Lesson Again’ is about continuing to go back to someone even when you know it's not good for you.

“As humans, we learn lessons constantly. However, some of those we seem to need to learn again and again. Especially when it comes to lovers! I believe that almost everyone can relate to this,” says Thomas.

Thomas shot the video on his phone while in Amsterdam with two of his good mates – Mitch Lowe, the Tauranga-based promoter of Bay Dreams, and Mitch James another local singer-songwriter.

The idea came from one of Thomas’ managers: “Why don’t you just fly to Amsterdam for the weekend and meet Mitch and Mitch and have a couple of big nights with them at ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event), and just take your phone and film everything?”

And that’s exactly what Thomas did: “And because the theme of the song is, ‘I guess I got to learn that lesson again,’ it marries perfectly with going out and partying till the early hours of the morning (and getting tattoos), and then getting up and braving the hangover to do it all again.

“I’m really enjoying connecting my fans with an unapologetically true version of myself, and what better way to do that than to film a music video on my phone while I live my life.”
