When the Mint Chicks imploded onstage last year, elder Neilson brother Reuben went back to Portland with his wife and children to concentrate on his design career. But music snuck back in through the basement - the pop-psychedelia he was making in the early hours was soon picked up by influential blog Pitchfork, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra grew legs of it's own.... Now he's been signed to a hefty U.S. indie, his debut's getting rave reviews, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra has shows booked until March 2012. Martyn P. Casey
Martyn P Casey has been in two classic Australian bands, first appearing with The Triffids before taking his bass over to Nick Cave's Bad Seeds in the early 90s. In a rare interview - as the latest set of Bad Seeds reissues/remasters arrives on our shores - Casey talks about lineup changes, the lost years and how side project Grinderman has caught the eyes of the ladies.
