Drivers travelling across the South Island could be met with snow-covered roads this morning with a heavy downfall forecast.
Warnings are in place for several alpine passes, and up to four centimetres of snow is expected to settle on some roads.
With a second cold front expected to bring snow to sea level in Christchurch this afternoon, Waka Kotahi says drivers should take extra care.
