Wild weather batters Canterbury
Hundreds of homes have been without power overnight as wild weather battered the South Island. Powerlines have been brought down by trees, other vegetation and at least one shed, with heavy rain and severe gales expected to continue throughout the day. Wind gusts in excess of 100 kilometres per hour were recorded across much of the country on Monday. Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management group controller Sean Poff spoke to Kim Hill.
