Storms and flooding in Auckland has blindsided emergency management, with about 50 evacuations.
Since last night 140 to 180 millimetres of rain has fallen in western areas.
There have been been incidents right across Auckland and the North Shore, with the bulk being in West Auckland, and up to Kumeu and Piha.
Fire Emergency New Zealand say between 9.30 pm and 4 am, they received more than 150 calls for assistance.
Most of the calls related to flooding into residential properties.
They were also called to help people stuck in vehicles.
Waitakere Ward councillor Shane Henderson said he woke up to txts at 2am about the storm.
He spoke to Corin Dann.
