Canada heat trouble prompts safety concerns

From Morning Report, 6:48 am on 1 July 2021

Police in the city of Vancouver say they have responded to 130 sudden deaths since Friday, linking them to the unprecedent heat wave over North America.

The "dome" of static hot air over the western part of North America has lifted temperatures close to 50 degrees celsius in some places and it has proved to be deadlier than authorities had estimated.

An all-time Canada record of 49.5 degrees was set in the British Columbia town of Lytton.
