Canterbury flooding: Rough day expected for farmers

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 31 May 2021

Mid-Canterbury farmers look set to face another tough day.

Between 300 to 400 millimetres of rainfall have fallen about the High Country over the past 24-hours.

Mid-Canterbury dairy farmer Rhys Roberts says the Ashburton River has swallowed up huge swaths of farmland - on one of their properties more than 100 hectares is underwater.

Several farmers had to be rescued as they got caught out in the floods attempting to reach their stock.

Mid-Canterbury Federated Farmers president David Clark spoke to Corin Dann.
