Torrential rain in Napier on Monday evening left thousands without power, flooded roads, and some evacuations.
More than 250 millimetres of rain fell on the Napier city centre from midday on Monday, and hundreds of calls for help were made to Fire and Emergency.
All of which led to the declaration of a local state of emergency just before 10pm.
