Wild weather has been lashing Wellington's south coast , with gusts of up to 100-kilometres an hour, and six-metre swells are expected.
The worst weather coincided with the high tide in the early hours of this morning.
Residents of Owhiro Bay were told to be ready to leave their homes if needed.
