Hutt Mayor criticised over retirement home plumbing problems

A plumber sent texts and photos to Hutt City mayor Ray Wallace raising serious concerns about faulty plumbing in a retirement village that exposed residents to dangerous sewer gases. But when RNZ asked for the texts we were told they did not exist. The city council now concedes they were sent to Mr Wallace but he deleted them. A spokesperson says the texts were 'transitory' and the mayor did not need to keep them under laws governing public communications. Hutt City Councillor Josh Briggs tells Morning Report this raises some serious issues.
